Your London Travelcard Voucher and Ticket options.
A London Travelcard can either be purchased for Zones 1-6 (All London), for either 1, 3 or 7 consecutive Days or for Zones 1 & 2 (Central Area) for one, three(Peak only) or seven consecutive days.
The 1 and 3 Day options are also split between Peak and Off-Peak versions. A Peak ticket is more expensive as it covers travel Mondays-Fridays before 0930hrs when most Londoners are travelling to work. Off-Peak tickets are valid after 09:30hrs Monday-Friday, and at any time Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays. Travelling in the Morning Peak can be fairly busy and rushed so most Visitors choose to travel after that time anyway !
REMEMBER IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO PURCHASE THE 3-DAY TRAVELCARD IN LONDON. THE ONLY WAY TO OBTAIN ONE IS TO PRE-PURCHASE THE 3-DAY LONDON TRAVELCARD VOUCHER TO REDEEM ON ARRIVAL.
CHILDREN
Some elements of travelling in London for children are now Free, but it varies by mode and time. Generally speaking children aged 1-4 travel Free on everything. From 5-10 inclusive children travel Free when travelling with a fare-paying Adult on Underground, Docklands Light Rail, Tram and Bus services, but NOT National Rail. Similar processes apply between the ages of 12 and 15 and often to be eligible for free or reduced travel on individual fares each child has to possess an Oyster photocard, which has to be bought in advance and has an administration fee of up to £10.
The simplest advice is, If you wish to travel on all modes of transport at any time, buy a Child Travelcard for anyone between 5 and 15 inclusive! From £3.00 a day Off-Peak, it’s well worth the money and you know you won't break any rules by travelling where and when you're not supposed to !
PLEASE NOTE TRANSPORT FOR LONDON ARE STILL SUPPLYING SOME 7-DAY CHILD TRAVELCARDS ENDORSED "VALID ONLY WITH A PHOTOCARD". THIS RULING WAS WITHDRAWN IN 2006 SO YOU WILL NOT BE ASKED NOR REQUIRE A PHOTOCARD FOR ANY CHILD TRAVELCARD.
